Synopsis

Illegal logging, invasive wildlife, and curious scientists are some of the dangers faced by a salamander in search of the stream from its childhood. Through the literary form of a fable and told as a children's story, this nature documentary, set in the vast Water Forest of central Mexico, explores the relationship between an iconic Mexican amphibian at risk of extinction and the ancient mysticism of the Otomí culture. "Bätsi," in the Otomí language, is a word that can refer to a creature, a girl, or a boy.
